AN ELDORADO FOR AVIATION ENTHUSIASTS

The fascination of flying: experience the Achental from a totally new perspective! Ideal flying conditions promise a special kind of holiday experience. There are many possibilities to choose from – gliding, paragliding or hang gliding.

Gliding

Take to the skies in a glider. Float nearly silently over the beautiful landscape and enjoy the Chiemgau-Chiemsee region from a unique perspective. On a scenic flight with the German Alpine Gliding School (DASSU) in Unterwössen. Thanks to its location, the Achental has some of the best thermal conditions.

If you can’t get enough of flying, you can take a training course in gliding, aerobatics, cross-country flying or motor gliding at DASSU. Learn to fly in the Alps – a holiday high above the Achental!

Paragliding

The Chiemgau is an El Dorado for paraglider pilots of all levels. Take off and enjoy the fantastic views high above the mountains. Trained paragliders will find numerous launch sites and optimal conditions in the Achental valley. It is no coincidence that Skywalk, one of the world’s most important paraglider manufacturers, has its headquarters here. From extreme sports enthusiasts to “soul flyers”, there is something for everyone. Hike & Fly is particularly popular.

If you just want to get a taste for the heights, you can take off together with experienced pilots as a tandem passenger or take an introductory course – for example at the Süddeutsche Gleitschirmschule (South German Paragliding School) in Unterwössen or one of the surrounding flying schools.

Hang gliding

Flying as free as a bird: this is another dream you can fulfil over the Achental. From the mountain station of the Hochplatten chair lift at 1,040 metres, hang-gliders take off on their flight over the breath-taking landscape of the valley. Landing sites are located in Piesenhausen and at the Wessnerhof in Pettendorf.

Thanks to the comfortable transport option with the double chairlift as well as the easy launch conditions, the DHV-certified terrain (German Hang-gliding Association) is also ideal for training.

You will find other starting ramps for take-offs at Hochfelln, Hochries, Unternberg, Rauschberg and Unterberghorn (Kössen).
